Our History

The Build It Together Foundation is the natural culmination of volunteer work done by Ruc and KimNhung Nguyen. Since 1995, they have returned to Mr. Nguyen’s hometown of Chanh Luu, Vietnam and across multiple trips, they have worked with various family members and a group of Vietnam veterans to carry out a wide range of charitable activities. A representative list includes repairing school roofs, building school wells, providing school uniforms, paving local roads, building houses, and teaching oral hygiene. Work in Chanh Luu decreased as an improved local economy and increased foreign investment in the larger Binh Duong province reduced the need for such help.
Via a local Vietnamese contact, news emerged of a great need for assistance in the Mekong Delta area. After months of review and contact with potential partners, the Nguyens went forward with the Mekong Delta project. Since 2006, they (and a support base of family and friends) have provided school supplies and distributed rice and noodles semi-annually, provided academic scholarships annually, and built over 50 houses. A process of proposal, review, development, fundraising, local team recruitment, and execution (along with visits) created the framework for Build It Together Foundation’s future projects.
As their volunteer work became more well-known, increasing numbers of proposals have been submitted from here and abroad. Mrs. Nguyen’s involvement in these projects gave her a glimpse of the extent of poverty abroad and led her to form the Build It Together Foundation as a means to collectively address the issues presented. The Build It Together Foundation is the place for proposals to be considered and approved projects to be fully developed, funded, and executed.
